CN 1: Olfactory
Sensory: have pt close eyes and cover one nostal. Can they identify the scent?
CN 2: optic
Sensory for vision
- visual acucity: snellens chart
- Visual field: periphery and numbers
- pupilary light reflex
CN 3: oculomotor
motor for eye movement
- smooth pursuit
- Saccrads
- pupilary light reflex
CN 5: trigeminal nerve
Sensory to face and motor to muscle of mastication
- opthalamic, maxillary, and mandibular branches
- Palpate massitor muscle
- Jaw open don’t let me close and jaw reflex
CN 7: facial nerve
sensory to anterior 2/3 of tongue for taste and motor to muscles of the face.
- eyebrows
- eyes
- smile
- air in cheeks
- pa pa pa
CN 8: vestibulochlochear
sensory for hearing and head postion
- vestibular branch: move head side to side “do you feel dizzy?”
- Cochlear branch: rib fingers can you hear it, Rines and Webbers
CN 11: Accessory
Motor to SCM and Traps
- move the head to the side (opposide side turned is SCM that is working)
Bring shoulders to ears
