Discussion Questions
ethical is not as clear as what is legal, so ethical choices are more open to debate.
o A student with a 4.0 GPA who has never been suspected of cheating is found in possession of a set of test answers for an upcoming final exam. In a news story, a local reporter labels the student as a culprit before revealing that the answers were in a sealed envelope that he was asked to relay from one friend to another, without knowing what was in the envelope. The student says the article has tarnished his reputation in regard to future academic admissions and job employment. The reporter states it is a fact that the student was in possession of test answers. With whom do you side, and why?
o Three teenagers were trespassing in an electronics warehouse when they witnessed and broke up a beating in progress. The police officer who arrived at the scene discovered the teenagers had tools for burglary in their possession but had not stolen anything. Medical
authorities reported that the teenagers probably saved the victim’s life. If you were covering this story, would you report all of the information? If you would omit any of it, justify your decision.
