Clutch Service Flashcards
Clutch slipping
Causes heat build up, which is consistent and excessive can lead to spring tension loss
Dragging clutch
Occurs when the disc is not quickly freed from the flywheel or P.P once pedal has been depressed. Can be caused by improper adjustment. Also can be influenced by excessive wear accumulated in the linkage
Clutch chattering
Could be caused by wear of external components. Results from compression not being strong enough to carry load.
Clutch vibration
Commonly from a in-balance in assembly
Diagnosing clutch noises
Know what components are spinning and stationary when noise present.
What bearings are likely to be cause of noise when pedal is depressed?
Pilot and release
What should be done prior to removing clutch from vehicle?
Disconnect battery ground cable
What is something that the disc and input shaft need to be check for?
Wear, make sure is even and that the disc hasn’t be running crooked
Warpage should be check on?
Flywheel
intermediate plate
P.P
Crankshaft should be check for?
Endplay
The adjuster ring on a manual clutch turns what direction to bring back pedal free play
Clockwise
Why are flywheel, clutch housing and trans housing face runout checks preformed?
To ensure that are components will be parallel to each other
Crankshaft, flywheel and clutch housing checks are conducted to ensure what?
That the centrelines of the crankshaft and trans input shaft are inline with each other
What is the function of flywheel guide studs, Cover/P.P guide studs and clutch aligning shafts?
They support the weight of the various assemblies as they are removed, or installed. Help to accurately position the assemblies in relation to one another. By supporting component weight they help protect associated parts from damage
T/F A specific loosening and torquing pattern is used when removing and installing clutch related components?
True
