Internet
The hardware that facilitates data transfer between smaller networks
Scalability
The ability for an organization to grow and shrink computing capacity on demand
Cloud service provider
A third-party company that provides various cloud-based services and resources
Software as a service
Known as SaaS, web-based software that is available on demand and delivered to end users via the cloud
Infrastructure as a service
Known as IaaS, computing resources such as storage, networking, or virtualized hardware that are provided via the cloud
Platform as a service
Known as PaaS, a cloud-based development platform provided via the cloud
Private cloud
Cloud resources that are only available within an organization. These resources can be accessed from numerous locations around the world, but access is limited to members of the organization. The hardware to support these resources remains on-premises.
Public cloud
Cloud resources from an external entity
Hybrid cloud
Mix of both public and private cloud components
Community cloud
Resources shared by multiple private organizations but not publicly accessible
Service-level agreements
Known as SLAs, contracts that establish a predetermined set of deliverables
Cloud
Hardware, software, and services that are running on remote systems and accessed over a network
