Cloud Definitions Flashcards
Cloud Computing Resources
SERVERS run your Applications
STORAGE where your data resides
NETWORK connects servers and storage to people outside the data center (cloud)
Advantages of the cloud
1) Hardware does not reside at the Physical site.
This relieves the headache of having to update and take care of equipment maintenance.
2) Access anytime, anywhere to data
3) Use what you need only
4) Secure site that is safe and backed up
What is the Cloud
The cloud is a metaphor for the internet and the equipment and infrastructure used.
Example: Like allowing the IT department to have control of the thermostat, not needing to worry about the furnace and its operations. They can turn up and down use as needed.
What is a Hypervisor
It is a Virtual Machine Monitor, installed on a Physical Server to allow for Multiple Virtual machines.
It Isolates the (OS) Operating System from computer hardware
It allows the host machine to operate multiple Virtual Machines
They share one machine’s resources / RAM / Bandwidth
Hypervisor Benefits to data Center
Allows Physical Host System (Computer) to run Multiple Virtual machines.
Mobil, independent of hardware-software not tied to hardware computer.
Makes the hardware details not as important as it can be migrated to any remote VM - zero disruption - called Live Migration.
Easier to protect data.
Types of Hypervisors
Type 1 runs directly on the hardware, a BARE METAL solution / Vsphere or Hyper V
Type 2 runs on a host operating system that provides virtualization services VM Ware player / Parallels is a good example.
What is structured data
This is traditional data, text files information, stored inside a data warehouse, can be used for analysis.
Highly organized, easy to digest
basic customer data, names addresses, contact info, financial information
What is unstructured data
This would be data from Social Media platforms.
Mobil applications
Location Services
Media files
Needs applications that can deal with different file types.
What are Buckets
Located within a namespace, they contain Objects which are like files.
To refer to an Object, you need:
Namespace / Bucket / Object name
which combine to be functionally equivalent to a Directory Path and file name combo
Namespace
A way to organize and manage many objects within a big container. Can span physical locations and systems.
Contains uniquely named items, such as Buckets.
Helped to fence off, sets of unique objects
Example: Knows what’s inside its universe, not others.
VM Ware
Virtualization cloud computing software.
A hypervisor is installed on the Physical Server - allowing Multiple Virtual machines to run on the same server.
Each Virtual Machine runs its own Operating System
Multiple Operating Systems can run on 1 Physical Server
They all share that machines same resources.
Network Attached Storage
The dedicated server used for file storage.
Usually, remote from the user’s computer
Shared data area where multiple computers can store and retrieve files
A Network links computers files to NAS
A person can view those files as if those files were actually on their own computer
Cloud Backup
Storage for Data.Hybrid Storage is Disk or SSD
Adds security: data centers extremely secure
Like putting money in a bank instead of under your pillow
Cost Efficient: simple as a download. No need for space, equipment, personal, maint, licensing
Adds: Agility / Fast implementation / Pay as you need / secure
Eliminates: Tape backup / Server Maint / Equip malfunction and IT headaches
Servers
servers contain 3 elements:
Network - which connects system in and out
Compute - Operating System - RAM / Speed
Storage - an array that holds the data
A single box contains all 3 elements in a rack
Disaster Recovery as a Service ( DRaaS)
This means ensuring your data is not lost due to any circumstance.
Synchronous - almost real-time immediate
Asynchronous - delayed, pre-timed backup on predetermined intervals
