Cloud Computing Flashcards
what is cloud computing?
cloud computing refers to the use of the internet by large computing companies to provide services normally provided by a LAN
advantages of data security within cloud computing
the organisation requires fewer resources. the third party provides the hardware and software resources required to store and retrieve the data
disadvantages of data security within cloud computing
the third party is responsible for data security. the organisation is reliant on the third party for data security. with cloud computing, most data access involves data transmission over the internet which increases the risk of unauthoriation access
what is virtualisation?
allows virtual servers to run on a physical server platform. its software allows them to run multiple operating systems and applications on the same server at the same time by making servers
what is a cloud instance?
its a location of physical memory on a cloud server which has been allocated to a particular client or owner
what is a hosted solution?
its any hardware and softeare made available to a client is reserved for the servicing of than individual client’s needs and no one lese
what are the cloud computing services?
data storage
email
virtualisation soteare
backup
remotely hosted applications
what is data storage?
refers to saving data on an off-site storage provided bya third party
rather than storing data on your computer’s hard drive or an alternative local storage device it is saved to a remote database and conncted to via internet
what is email?
we based services such as outlook allows users to access their email from the cloud using any browser or hardware platform with access to an internet connection
emails are stored on service provider
what is virtualised software?
this enables the user access application hosting and not having to give consideration to the storage space taken up on their own personal devices
the user can access the softeare from any location. they can share and access their data files from anywhere with internet connection
what is backup?
it allows clients to store their data on the internet using a storage service provider rather than storing data locally on a physical hard drive or other devices
to access backup it must be through service provider
what is remotely hosted application?
this allows clients to access their business applications from anywhere in the world where they have access to technology and an internet connection
advantages of cloud computing
can react more responsively to changes in user requirements
uses wide range of devices from a wide range of locations supported
updates can be readily made available to all users
cross-compatiability is not any issue as all users can use
reduced cost- client don’t consider expernse of purchasing and confioguring hardware and software to help meet busines needs
increased flexiability in work arrangments
increased reliability
disadvantages of cloud computing
you trust someone soleyly on your updates, backups, restorations and security
cyber attacks are problematic where large amounts of data are stored by wide range of users
insider threats can also pose as a problem- employees can access cloud without being detected
loss of confidentiality
leagal liability- as who becomes reliable after data is breached
