  • ticking sound of the clock is found in constant quaver repetition in the main theme
  • melody often uses dotted rhythms
  • music gets more complex

  • mainly scalic + triadic movement
  • repetitive 2 note motifs in the ticking clock accompaniment
  • there are some ornaments e.g acciaccatura in main melody

Describe harmonic features of the Clock Symphony

A
  1. Key of 2nd movement is G major (but whole symphony is in D major)
  2. The chords are mostly used are the Tonic (G major) + Dominant (D major)
  3. There is a pedal note played by Oboe on Dominant note D
  4. A pedal note is a long sustained note whilst chord may change around it
