Clinical laboratory Flashcards
How often should quality assurance reviews be performed in the clinical ultrasound laboratory?
All ultrasound laboratories should conduct performance checks on all ultrasound equipment at regular intervals. These routine performance reviews help assure consistent and accurate performance of the ultrasound equipment
Describe the components of the AIUM 100 mm test object
The AIUM 100 mm test object is commonly used for quality assurance checks. The test object consists of perspex (clear plastic) sides, water, alcohol, algae inhibitor and stainless steel metal rods
Explain the difference between a test object and a tissue phantom
The test object varies from the tissue phantom in that the tissue phantom closely simulates the attenuation and scattering characteristics of soft tissue better than the test object
Define the term acoustic exposure
The amount of ultrasound energy delivered to the patient. It depends upon acoustic pressure, amplitude, power, and intensity
