What are the key features of proximal contacts?
1) position
2) size
3) tightness
- patient feel
- floss test
- spray occlude
- NO articulating paper (blue thicker -> for removable) (red for FP) -> AT most use for anterior teeth
How to adjust excess and deficient proximal contacts? (Metal/porcelain)
Excess:
- metal -> grind and repolish
- porcelain -> grind (no metal burs) and finish (brownies)
Deficient:
- metal -> add on solder
- porcelain -> correction porcelain, LFC
How to test for marginal integrity of FP
1) Vertical discrepancy
2) Horizontal discrepancy
3) Visual - light and magnification
4) Tactile - sharp explorer
- check mid buccal, mid palatial of FP in patient
What is spray occlude used for?
- Detect binding to axial wall/occlusal of prep
- remove excess to fit FP
What should you check for coutour/aesthetics
1) incisal edge
- 1-2mm show with upper lip relaxed
2) smile line
- young (more curved)
- class 2 (more exaggerated)
- class 3 (reversed smile line)
3) occlusal plane
- parallel to interpupillary line
4) arrangement and form
5) relative tissue levels
6) Tooth line angles
Describe possible glazing error
Bubbles appear after glazing WITHOUT vacuum -> last air firing stage
When do you check for tooth shade?
- Check BEFORE procedure (before rubber dam)
- Avoid dehydration of adjacent natural teeth (appear lighter)
