Extraoral exploration:

Intraoral exploration:
Soft Tissues: Fistula, swelling/pathology on lips, cheeks, bottom of the vestibule, palate… Gums Recession…
Dental Tissues: cavities, fissures, restorations, fistulas, abscess , discoloration…
Two types of percussion:
- vertical
2. horizontal
Vertical percussion:
pulp problem
with the handle of the mirror
Horizontal percussion:
periodontal problem
from the buccal wall of the teeth
When are we just gonna do the percussion?
If the patient has pain
Healthy periodontal status:
between 1-3 mm
Periodontal socket:
more or = 4 mm
What is most likely what we have, if we have a deep probing on one specific place?
suspected fissure
Vitality test: cold
carbon dioxide -78°
Vitaity test < 20sec
reversible pulpitis
Vitality test > 20 sec
irreversible pulpitis
Vitality test: no respone
Necrosis
Do we need to do a vitality test by a normal check up?
No, cause its a pain test
When do we have problems with the pulp?
By:
- reversible pulpitis
- irreversible pulpitis
- Pulp necrosis
Regrading the treatment plan, what do we need to do first?
always do the emergency first, we help the patient with the pain
We need to remove any inflammation first, before we do something
What include the treatment plan?
- Emergency
- Scale and polish, periodontal study
- Extractions
- Root canal treatments
- Obturations
- Prosthodontic treatment
