Q
Which techniques have SPECIFIC depths of insertion? What are those depths?
A
PSA & IO - 16mm (4mm visible of 20mm-shaft of a short needle)
IA - max. 20-25mm (8-10 mm visible of 32mm-shaft of a long needle)
* math doesn’t add up but that is how it is stated on lecture slide; apparently needle lengths differ and 32mm is “average” length of a needle
2
Q
Needle shaft lengths
A
Long ~ 32mm
Short ~ 20mm
X-short ~ 12mm
3
Q
3 key intraoral landmarks for IA
A
- PTERYGOMANDIBULAR RAPHE (defines medial extent)
- CORONOID NOTCH on ant border of ramus (defines height)
- INTERNAL OBLIQUE RIDGE on medial surface of mandible close to molars (defines lateral extent)
