Clincal pathology Flashcards
Describe the possible diagnosis’ for monocytosis in the blood?
Monocytosis in chronic inflammation, necrosis and stress.
Describe the possible diagnosis for a change in neutrophil levels in the blood.
Neutrophilia in inflammation, excitement, stress and hyperadrenocorticalism. Neutropenia in overwhelming infections and endotoxaemia.
What could cause a change in eosinophils in the blood?
Eosinophilia may be seen in hypersensitivity, parasitism, some cases of hypoadrenocorticism, neoplasia and some specific eosinophilic and mast cell disorders. Eosinopenia in stress/hyperadrenocortism.
What could cause a change in levels of basophils in the blood?
Rarely seen in peripheral blood but basopohilia may be seen in conjunction with eosinophilia.
What may cause a change in number of lymphocytes in the blood??
Lymphocytosis in excitement and chronic infection, lymphopenia in stress, lymphoma, early viral disease and lymph loss.
Describe what may cause a change in the number of platelets in the blood?
Decreased numbers eg immune mediated thrombocytopenia, bone marrow hypoplasia, or platelets with abnormal function may result in defects in primary Haemostasis. Increased numbers can occur in excitement and inflammation.
