What type of redwood forests do current logging activities take place?
- second growth
Why and how do these trees grow to such size with a lack of rainfall in this region of California?
- they take water out of the atmosphere b/c there’s lots of fog, they grow tall to get water
- 1/4 to 1/2 of water comes from the fog
What is a more sustainable way of harvesting the redwoods and how can this method increase the number and volume of wood harvested?
- selective logging
- select the best trees
- ensures there will more redwoods to take from in the future
