Climate Change Flashcards
What are the greenhouse gases?
The greenhouse gases are water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide and chlorofluorocarbons.
What is the greenhouse effect?
The greenhouse effect is a process in which gases in the Earth’s atmosphere trap the sun’s heat. This process makes the planet much warmer than it would be without an atmosphere.
What is global warming?
Global warming is a significant increase in the temperature of Earth’s atmosphere referring to the greenhouse effect caused by the increase level of pollutants.
What is climate change?
Climate change describes a long-term change in the average conditions (such as temperature and rainfall) in a region
How do humans add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere?
Some of the ways are; deforestation, as there will be fewer trees to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and burning fossil fuels (this generates electricity).
What is deforestation and why is it concerning?
Deforestation is the action/practice of destroying a large area of trees. It is the removal/clearance of a forest. The reason why it is a concern is because the loss of trees and other types of vegetation can cause climate change, increased greenhouse gases, soil erosion and many more problems.
