Q

Evidence for and against climate change

A

Against: Temperature has fluctuated for far longer than humans have been alive and so we may just be going through a spell of high fluctuation
For: Rising sea levels as more ice is melting, higher levels of CO2 a greenhouse gas. Written record show that since people began to writer them the temperature has gone up by 0.6 degrees

Q

Natural and human causes of climate change

A

Human: The enhanced greenhouse effect involves humans burning fossil fuels which then releases carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas. This then causes global warming.
Natural: when a volcano erupts tiny droplets of sulphuric acid act as tiny mirrors and reflect radiation from the sun. Sunspots are dark patches on the sun which release a very hot gas. The milankovic cycle is another factor causing climate change

Q

Impacts of climate change

A

Environmental: Tropical storms will become much stronger. Arctic species may become extinct
Social: Rising sea levels will affect 80 million people in low lying areas. Diseases such as malaria will become more prominent.
Economic: increased water demand. Businesses such as ski resorts may have to close

Q

Mitigation strategies

A

Using alternative energy sources such as solar power as the ones we are using contribute 87% of the worlds carbon dioxide. Planting more trees will reduce the levels of carbon dioxide in the air
We can use carbon capture where CO2 is compressed and injected into an underground reservoir.

Q

Adaption strategies

A

Managing water supplies is important due to more unreliable rainfall and common droughts. We can also use more irrigation systems and drought resistant strains of crops.
Constructing sea walls to stop rising sea level damage.

Q

The things in a food chain

A

Producer: Produces the energy (algae)
Consumer: Consumes either another consumer or the producer to get the energy (kingfisher)
Decomposer: decomposes the entertainment into the soil (water worm)
Food chain: The connections between different organisms that rely on one another as their food source
Food web: Complex hierarchy of plants and animals that rely on each other for food
Nutrient cycle : the steps the nutrients follows such as produced by the producers or decomposed back into the soil.
