climate change Flashcards
what are the 3 main greenhouse gases?
water vapour, methane and carbon dioxide
how do humans increase co2 in the atmosphere?
burn fossil fuels which releases carbon dioxide
what is the effect of deforestation in the atmosphere?
carbon dioxide increases because less plants are able to photosynthesise and take co2 in
what 2 ways do humans increase methane in atmosphere?
through agriculture and when cows fart
what is the effect on atmosphere of methane and co2 increasing?
temperature of atmosphere rises because more energy from sun is being trapped in atmosphere
what effect does climate change have on polar ice sheets and glaciers?
causes them to melt, which leads to a rise in sea level and flooding
what effect does climate change have on weather?
frequency and severity of storms may increase
what effect does climate change have on distribution of animals?
increase in temp and amount of water available in a habitat may affect animals and their distribution
what do many scientists believe is the reason for temperature of earth’s atmosphere increasing?
human activites
why do we have simplified models, speculation and opinions presented in media based on parts of evidence and potential bias about climate change?
because it is difficult to model such complex systems such as global climate change
