carbon footprint Flashcards
what is meant by carbon footprint?
total amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases emitted over full life cycle of a product, service or event
how can we reduce co2 emissions in terms of cars?
instead of driving cars, we can reduce co2 emissions by using public transport such as buses or trains, they release less co2 per passenger
a lot of carbon dioxide is produced by generating electricty by burning fossil fuels, how can we reduce co2 emissions from this?
switching to renewable energy sources of electricty e.g. wind power
how can we reduce amount of electricity used at home?
switch to energy-saving lightbulbs, and turn off appliances at plug instead of leaving them on
why aren’t solutions to reduction of co2 emissions not actually used?
most solutions are expensive, and some cases ( like public transport) they’re convienient
how can we reduce methane emissions in terms of cattle?
cattle like cows release methane when they fart, we can reduce methane emissions by people eating less beef and dairy products
why wont the solution of people eating less beef and dairy to reduce methane produced by cattle actually work?
people enjoy eating dairy and beef and they will be reluctant to change
how can we reduce methane emissions in terms of landfill?
we can trap methane and burn it to produce electricity
why is trapping methane and burning it to produce electricity a good idea?
methane is a more powerful greenhouse gas then co2
why is trapping methane and burning it to produce electricity a bad idea?
it costs money
