Climate Change Flashcards

1
Q

What are anthropogenic causes for climate change:

A

-Greenhouse effect due to greenhouse gasses like methane and carbon dioxide
These are due to human activities such as deforestation, peat harvesting, soil degradation and ocean warming which all started with the Industrial Revolution

Q

What is the positive feedback of loss of reflective snow and ice in terms of global warming?

A

Albedo is the extent to which a surface reflects light. Higher albedo means more reflected light. Light coloured surfaces such as snow and ice have a high albedo and vice versa .
As polar ice caps melt, more of sun’s energy is absorbed which increases global warming
