C4.1 THINGYS Flashcards
The mutualism between rhizobium and fabaceae
the plant:
- grows root nodules in which the bacteria can live with protection
- Maintains low oxygen conditions
-Supplies sugar
Rhizobium:
-Absorbs nitrogen and produces ammonium
- Makes sure the plant doesnt go into nitrogen deficiency
The mutualism in mycorrhizae and orchidaceae
The orchid:
Supplies carbon compounds including sugars
the fungus:
-Absorbs nitrogen and phosphorus from the soil and supplies it to the orchid
- Supplies fixed carbon in organic compounds
-Supplies water
Zooxanthallae in coral
The coral:
-Provides a safe and protected environment
-Grows close to the surface so the algae have a good source of light
-Supplies carbon dioxide
The algae:
- supplies carbon compounds such as glucose and amino acids
-Supplies oxygen produced by photosynthesis
