Climate change Flashcards
What causes climate change?
Climate change is primarily caused by human activities that release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, such as burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for energy, transportation, and industrial processes.
Canada’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
Transportation – Fuel efficient cars, electric/hydrogen cars, public transit.
Energy – Efficiency of energy production, renewable resources.
Buildings – Energy efficient buildings and appliances.
Agriculture & Forestry – Promote better practices of fertilizer use, crop/livestock
management, tree planting.
Industry – Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
Is the earth getting wamer or colder
warmer
What can climate change lead to?
severe weather, droughts, ice cap melting, acidification of the oceans.
What happened in Montreal Protocol (1987)
Eliminate use of chemicals which deplete the ozone layer.
Kyoto Protocol (1998)
Reduce emission of greenhouse gases
Copenhagen Accord (2009)
Hold global temperature increases to 2°C or less this century.
Paris Accord (2016)
Limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C or less this century. Countries report regularly on emissions efforts.
