Leaching
(With reference to a soluble chemical or mineral) drain away from soil, ash, or similar material by the action of percolating liquid, especially rainwater.
Latitude
The angular distance of a place north or south of the earth’s equator, or of the equator of a celestial object, usually expressed in degrees and minutes: latitude 1 at a latitude of 51° N.
Leeward
On or towards the side sheltered from the wind; downward. Contrasted with windward.
Precipitation
CHEMISTRY: The action or process of precipitating a substance from a solution.
Rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to or condenses on the ground. These convective processes produce cloud and precipitation.
Rain shadow
A region having little rainfall because it is sheltered from prevailing rain-bearing winds by a range of hills.
Windward
Facing the wind or on the side facing the wind. Contrasted with leeward.
The side or direction from which the wind is blowing.
Climate
The weather conditions prevailing in an area in general or over a long period.
Equator
A line notionally drawn on the earth equidistant from the poles, dividing the earth into northern and Southern Hemispheres and constituting the parallel of latitude 0°.
Altitude
The height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level.

A wind from the direction that is predominant or most usual at a particular place or season.
