Climate Flashcards
1
Q
What are the factors that plays into a particular place’s weather?
A
- Air temperature
- Cloud cover
- Wind speed
- Wind direction
2
Q
What is climate?
A
Climate is the average state of the atmosphere at a particular place over a long period of time, typically 25 years/ more
3
Q
What are the climate types?
A
- Tropical equatorial climate
- Tropical monsoon climate
- Cool temperate climate
3
Q
What are climate hazards?
A
- May occur due to changes in climate, & extreme weather including heat waves, droughts, floods, cyclones & wildfires
- Impact natural & human systems significantly
4
Q
How & why are air temperature vary across over time?
A
- In a day due to the Earth’s rotation on its axis
- In a year due to the Earth’s revolution around the Sun
5
Q
How & why does air temperature vary across places?
A
- At the global scale, air temperature is lower at higher latitudes. this is due to lower solar angles
- At a local scale, air temperatures are lower at higher altitudes. This is due to lower air pressure
