Climate Flashcards
What does LOWERN stand for
Latitude
Ocean currents
Winds and air masses
Elevation
Relief
Near water
How does latitude affect climate
At higher latitude causes a colder climate because the solar energy doesn’t have a large area to spread over making it cold at higher latitude it is warmer
How do ocean currents affect climate
If a cold ocean current passes by it will cool the surrounding air making it a colder climate if a warm ocean current passes by it will cause it to be warmer
How does wind affect climate
If the wind is coming from up north it is going to carry the cold air down making it cold. If the wind is coming from the south then it will carry warm air making it warmer
How does elevation affect climate
Temperature will decrease the higher up you are and increase the lower you are
How does relief affect climate
Mountain ranges and hills block the wind and precipitation from certain areas making those areas a dry climate
How does near water affect climate
If in a maritime area they will be warmer and wetter if in a continental area they will be cooler and dryer
