What are the streams of waste and their associated risk?
- BLACK = v low risk, domestic/ hygiene waste
—> Healthcare waste (below) must be made safe before disposal
- ORANGE = low risk, heat treated before disposal (used PPE, swabs etc.)
- YELLOW = high risk, specialist incineration (live tissue)
- RED = chemical waste, recovery only; cannot be incinerated (Am, radioactive)

What is the difference between cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation?
Cleaning = removal of visibly soiling
Disinfection = elimination of all pathogenic microbes except spores
Sterilisation = eliminates all forms of microbial life
