Classroom Flashcards
Controlled setting
The classroom is a controlled setting. For example the teacher controls the layout, access, pupil time, activities, noise levels, dress and language. This can also be an advantage as it makes the study and the results easy to replicate ( more reliable)
Student / teacher behaviour
May not accurately reflect those involved really feel, teachers + pupils are very experienced with concealing their thoughts and feelings from each-other e.g. impression management- and may do so with the researcher
Practical issues
Room for only 30 people in a confined space - schools have large and complex sites.
Closed social setting - harder to access and more physical + social boundaries
Timetables may impact e.g. holidays, exams etc
Researchers seen as teachers by students - impacting truthfulness
Gatekeepers
Those who control access to the classroom (e.g. head teachers and governors). The more there are to a particular research setting the harder it is to obtain + maintain access - making research harder in general
Peer pressure
Young people may be insecure about their identity and status, making them more sensitive to peer pressure - affecting how they respond to research.
