what is a species?
individuals with similar features that share a gene pool and breed to produce fertile offspring
what is courtship?
special behaviours/rituals that members of a species do to attract a mate
why is courtship important?
recognise members of its own species
identify a mate capable of breeding
form a pair bond

what is the phylogenetic classification system?
based off dna base sequences

what does hierarchy mean?
a large group split into smaller and smaller groups with no overlap

what is biodiversity?
the variety of living organisms in an environment
what is species richness?
the number of different species in an area
what is index of diversity?
a measure that takes into account the number of different species in the area and how many there are of each species
what does a higher index of diversity mean?
an area is more diverse and more stable
higher index of diversity means a higher diversity of animals can be supported due to a higher variety of food and a higher variety of habitat
