4
Q

what is an open skill?

A
  • the environment is constantly changing
  • the performer has to adapt to the changes
  • the performer interprets the information + makes a correct decision
  • e.g. passing, dribbling, sailing

5
Q

what is a closed skill?

A
  • the environment is constant + predictable
  • the skills are repeated without adjustment
  • e.g. tennis serve, gymnastics vault, discus throw

8
Q

what is a simple skill?

A
  • the performer has a limited amount of information to process
  • limited perception
  • skill can be taught whole
  • e.g. running, throwing

9
Q

what is a complex skill?

A
  • a large amount of information to process
  • lots of decision-making by the performer
  • the performer adapts to the environment
  • e.g. gymnastics vault, platform dive

12
Q

what is a fine skill?

A
  • performed with small muscle groups
  • requires precision
  • e.g. pistol shooting, spin bowling

13
Q

what is a gross skill?

A
  • performed using large muscle groups
  • low level of precision
  • e.g. rugby tackle, shot put

16
Q

what is an externally-paced skill?

A
  • the environment controls the timing + speed of the skill
  • e.g. footballer receiving a pass
17
Q

what is a self-paced skill?

A
  • the performer controls the timing + speed of the skill
  • e.g. a tennis player deciding to serve
18
Q

what is the continuity continuum?

A

the clarity of the start + end of the movement, + how closely linked the subroutines are

19
Q

what are the types of skill on the continuity continuum?

A

discrete + serial + continuous

20
Q

what is a discrete skill?

A
  • clear beginning + end
  • a single action
  • e.g. a penalty
21
Q

what is a serial skill?

A
  • a number of discrete skills grouped together
  • e.g. triple jump
22
Q

what is a continuous skill?

A
  • no clear beginning + end
  • cyclic skills
  • e.g. cycling
23
Q

what is the organisation continuum?

A

how closely the subroutines are linked + whether the performer can practise each subroutine in isolation

24
Q

what are the types of skill on the organisation continuum?

A

high organisation + low organisation

25
Q

what is a high organisation skill?

A
  • hard to break down into subroutines + practice individually
  • practice skill as whole
  • e.g. pole vault
26
Q

what is a low organisation skill?

A
  • easy to separate into subroutines + practice individually
  • skill can be isolated
  • e.g. breaststroke
