Classification of Perio Revision Questions Flashcards
Stage 1
early/mild
<15% or 2mm interporximal bone loss at worst site
no tooth loss
Stage 2
moderate
coronal third of root interporoximal bone loss at worst site
no tooth loss
Stage 3
severe
mid third of root interproximal bone loss at worst site
<=4teeth lost
Stage 4
very severe
apical third of root interporoximal bone loss at worst site
>= 5 teeth lost
What does staging mean
reflects the severity of perio measured by interproximal bone loss and based on % bone loss in relation to root length
What is grading
reflects the suscebitlity of the paitent to perio in absence of intervention.
this is done by using the ratio of %bone loss in relation to their age
Grade A
slow
<0.5% - non smoker
Grade B
moderate
0.5%-1% <=2mm over 5 years
Grade C
rapid
>1.0% >=2mm over 5 years
10 cigs
Extent
localised - 30% of teeth affected
generlised - >30% of teeth affected
molar incisor pattern

Status
Curretnly stable - BOP,10%, PPD <=4mm, No BOP at 4mm sites
Currently in remission - BOP >10%, PPD<=4mm, No BOP at 4mm sites
Currently unstable - PPD >=5mm or PPD >=4mm and BOP
