Classification of Malocclusion Flashcards
define Angle’s class I malocclusion
the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar occludes in the buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar- discrepancy cannot be greater than half a cusp
define Angle’s class II malocclusion
the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar occludes anterior to the buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar
define Angle’s class III malocclusion
the mesiobuccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar occludes posterior to the groove of the lower first permanent molar
define a class I incisor classification
lower incisor edges occlude with, or lie immediately below the cingulum plateau of the upper central incisors
define a class II div 1 incisor malocclusion
the lower incisor edges lie posterior to the cingulum plateau of the upper incisors
the upper central incisors are proclaimed or of average inclination and there is an increased overjet
define a class II div 2 incisor malocclusion
the lower incisor edges lie posterior to the cingulum plateau of the upper incisors
the upper central incisors are retroclined- the overjet is ususally minimal but may be increased
define a class III incisor malocclusion
the lower incisor edges lie anterior to the cingulum plateau of the upper incisors
the overjet is reduced or reversed
