What are the two classifiactions of liver disease?
Acute or chronic
What is the duration of acute liver disease?
Less than 6 months duration
How does acute liver disease often resolve?
Often resolves spontaneously and is self-limiting
What is seed to happen to the liver function during acute disease?
Rapid decline in liver function
Symptomatic or asymptomatic?
Can be both
What is acute liver disease associated with?
100% association with encephalopathy (brain disease, damage or malfunction) and coagulopathy (bleeding disorder)
What is acute liver disease not associated with?
Jaundice disease.
What can acute liver disease result in?
Acute liver failure
What is the time scale of Chronic Liver disease?
Duration of over 6 months
Sympotmatic or asympomatic?
Mostly symptomatic
What are the results of chronic liver disease?
Permanent structural change, loss of normal liver architecture and cirrhosis
What is liver cirrhosis
Fibrous scars, with the liver divided into nodules. Can eventually lead to liver failure and can be fatal.
What is chronic liver disease secondary to?
Long standing cell damage
