Classification Flashcards
What is the definition of movement?
an action an organism takes which changes it positions/place
What is the definition of respiration?
The chemical reaction that occurs in cell, which cause there to be breakdowns of nutrition molecules and release energy for metabolism
What is the definition of growth?
A permanent increase in size of dry mass by an increase in cell size or cell number or both
What is the definition of excretion?
Removal from organism of toxic material and substances in excess of requirements
What is the definition of sensitivity?
The ability to detect or sense stimuli in the internal environment and make appropriate responses
What is the definition of nutrition?
Taking of material for energy, growth and development
What do all living organisms have?
All organism has a cytoplasm, DNA, Cell membrane, Ribosomes and Enzymes.
What is the definition of classifications ? And why is classification used?
Classifications is more a complicate way of saying grouping things together by their physical features. and the reason for grouping them is to make easier to study them.
What is the definition of Morphology?
the study of the size, shape, and structure of animals, plants, and microorganisms
What is the definition of Anatomy ?
The detailed body structure. in which could be determined when dissected.
How does the classification system work?
The classification system organizes species into domain, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus and finally species.
What are the 5 kingdoms? and how are they separated?
animals, plants, fungi, prokaryotes and protoctists. Each kingdom has characteristic features so that an organism can easily be assigned to one of the kingdoms.
What is the definition of a DNA?
DNA is a large complex molecule that carries a genetic information that determines the characteristics of living things
What are species?
Species is a group of organisms that has the ability to reproduce and produce fertile offspring
What is the binomial system?
The binomial system is an internationally agreed system in which the scientific name of an organisms is made of two parts, which shows the genus and species.
