Classical conditioning: Key words Flashcards
Trial
Each paired presentation that is made
Acquisition Stage
The trials during which learning occurs
Reinforcement
Repeated presentation strengthens the association
Extinction
If the association is not reinforced, i.e. the UCS (meat/bang) is omitted, the response reduces and eventually stops
Spontaneous Recovery
After the apparent extinction of the behaviour it suddenly returns
Generalisation
Similar stimuli will produce the same response e.g. a white rabbit caused Little Albert to cry
Discrimination
Different stimuli will not produce the response e.g. a black dog did not cause Little Albert to cry
One-trial learning
A single experience leads to learning e.g. being caught up in the underground bombings leading to a fear of trains etc.
