Classical Conditioning Flashcards
What is the Opponent-Process Theory?
For every action there is a naturally occurring response which is opposite
Example of Opponent-Process Theory
Heroin lowers blood pressure, using heroin in same environment causes body to recognise the environmental cues and raises your blood pressure in anticipation of heroin use.
What is Higher Order Conditioning?
Pairing a new stimulus to already paired stimulus (pairing light once bell has been established)
What is Sensory Preconditioning?
Pairing two neutral stimulus together (pairing bell and light together)
What is Overshadowing?
Presentation of two environmental cues where one may be stronger than the other
Example of Overshadowing
Training a dog to sit using your voice and a treat, the treat may have a stronger influence than your voice.
What is Latent Inhibition?
The more familiar the stimulus is, the harder it is to condition
What is Blocking?
Present two stimulus simultaneously and new stimulus doesn’t change anything
