Classical Conditioning Flashcards
Who invented this experiment (Classical Conditioning)?
Ivan Pavlov
What is/are the difference/s between Conditional/Unconditional Stimulus and Conditional/Unconditional Response? Define them.
- An Unconditional Stimulus makes an unconditional response. But a conditional stimulus makes a conditional response.
- Unconditional stimulus is a stimulus in which it triggers a certain reaction/thought automatically (without teaching). Although a conditional stimulus is a stimulus in which it was used to be taught a certain response.
- Unconditional response is a reaction to a natural reaction to a stimulus. Although a conditional response is an action associated with a stimulus which was taught and paired with its stimulus.
What was used for the classical conditioning experiment?
A dog was used to discover how it salivated every time it saw food.
What are the 3 classical conditioning stages?
1) The UCS produces an UCR.
2) A neutral stimulus is paired with an UCS. Later on, the neutral stimulus will become the CS through teaching.
3) Now the CS stimulus is associated with the UCS, therefore producing a CR.
What is a “One Trial Learning”?
It refers to the instances where the association does not need to be strengthened over time.
If a condition response disappears, would it vanish forever?
Not necessarily. Although it may affect the response to the conditioned stimulus, which would be weaker.
Define “The Blocking Effect”.
The lack of a conditioned response to a conditioned stimulus, due to another conditioned response which stops the predicted response from happening.
What is a Spontaneous Recovery?
A Spontaneous Recovery is a reappearance of a conditioned stimulus, which hasn’t been presented for quite some time.
What was Kamin’s Experiment like?
2 Groups pf rats in which both groups were taught different factors of the experiment.
What has John Garcia found out regarding to association?
He found out that learning through associations were much easier and faster to learn of they regard to survival.
What did the “Little Albert Experiment” consist of?
It consisted of a little boy named Albert who was scared of loud noises but not rats.
