Class V Amalgam Tooth Preparations Flashcards
What is usually the 1st choice of restoration for class V?
Composites…
What is the most difficult aspect of Class V preps?
retention!
What shape is the amalgam outline form?
Similar to the composite class V prep, but more trapezoidal.
What shape should the axial wall make?
It should follow the curvature of the DEJ: deeper at the occlusal edge and more shallow at the gingival edge.
How deep should the axial wall be placed? Why?
Minimum of 1.0 mm deep - at least 0.5mm into the dentin.
This deep into the dentin allows the placement of necessary retention grooves without undermining enamel.
How deep should the retention grooves be?
1/4 mm deep at the occluo-incisoaxial and gingivoaxial line angles. Do NOT undermine the enamel!
