Bipolar in the elderly
Course of illness may be more heterogenous, reduced risk of suicide vs young bipolar pts, more at risk for dementia, more cognitive impairment, more comorbid GMC, excessive sexual interest less common. Comorbid anxiety and SUD less present. Larger gap between manic and depressive episodes

How to differentiate between BPD and NCD
Common features of NCD is change in personality, or exacerbation of preexisting characteristics, so need longitudinal history.
Erikson tasks of elderly
maintain body image and integrity, life review, maintain sexual activity and interest, deal with death of significant other, accept implication of retirement, accept the genetically programmed failure of organ systems, accept changes in the relationship with grandchildren, divest onself to the attachment of posessions
