Class 7 Terms Flashcards
The study of animal behaviour
Ethology
Tissue analysis identify cell types and connections, and disease states
Histology
The study of the biological bases of behaviour includes both humans and animals
Behavioural neuroscience
A technique that produces a static, 3 dimensional brain image by passing a strong magnetic field through the brain, followed by a radio wave, then measuring the radiation emitted from the hydrogen atoms
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Imaging which measures iron or oxygen and blood flow in the brain while behaviours are being performed
Functional magnetic resonance imaging
A surgical device that permits a researcher or a neurosurgeon to target a specific part of the brain for ablation
Stereotaxic Apparatus
Removal or destruction of tissue
Ablation
An electro is lowered into the brain and a current is passed through it to destroy specific regions
Electrolytic lesion
A neuron killing chemical is injected into the brain to kill specific neurons
Neurotoxic lesion
Rats with electrodes in their hypothalamus press a lever and they would get get electricity stimulating their eating and pleasure
Self stimulation
Transgenic technique that combines genetics and light to control targeted cells in living tissue
Optogenetics
Different brainwaves measured and represented as awake, relaxed, drowsy, asleep, deep sleep, and coma
Characteristic EEG recordings
Brain stimulation procedure in which a magnetic coil is placed over the skull to stimulate the brain, to either induce or disrupt ongoing behaviour
Transcranial magnetic stimulation TMS
Complex electroencephalographic waveforms related in time to a specific sensory event
Event related potential
Man who discovered a link between specific damage located in the left frontal lobe region and language difficulties
Paul Broca
