What is Preload? What is it determined by?

A

When your heart is totally full and ready to pump to the rest of the body. It is determined by volume of venous blood returned to the heart

Define Afterload, and what is it determined by?

A

the amount of FORCE required to eject the filled heart. It is determined by SVR (Systemic vascular resistance) and ventricular wall tension, because if you aren’t able to contract that muscle well, the force is not effective.

A

impaired filling during diastole, which occurs in the absence of systolic dysfunction– LVEF >40%
