CLA- Before Birth Flashcards
What did Fitzpatrick (2002) discover about babies’ recognition of the mother’s voice in the womb?
Fitzpatrick (2002) found that the heart rate of an unborn baby slowed when it heard its mother’s voice.
What did a 2013 study show that are babies able to differentiate in the womb?
Babies can differentiate sounds from their native language and a foreign language even in the womb.
A 2013 study looked at forty infants under two days old. They were given pacifiers (dummies) and researchers investigated how interested each baby was in the vowel sound of their mother’s native tongue and a foreign language. The study showed differences in sucking time between exposure to native and foreign languages - differentiation had been learnt in the womb!
What have studies shown that babies are listening to in the last 10 weeks of pregnancy?
A new study shows that unborn babies are listening to their mothers talk during the last 10 weeks of pregnancy and at birth can demonstrate what they’ve heard.
