Recruitment
Conditions of the army were very poor at home and even worse abroad.
Pay was less than that of a labourer and had to pay for a soldiers food and accomodation ( during peace time ) and equipment.
Between 1700 -1800 there were no barracks for soldiers to live in.As the size of the army increased towns and cities increasingly met problems, with large number of soldiers causing disturbance and disreupting trade.
1757 militia act was deeply resented and provoked riots.

In 1700 the army relied upon requistioning wagons and animals from civilians for transportation.
Taxation increase
The cost of the army increased from £1 million in 1700 to £8 million in the mid 18th century.Extra cost was not much of a burden as he population grew and standard of living rose.In wartime taxes rose considerably : the wars against France, 1793-1815 ost around £25 million a year
