Q

Approx. what track nm from touchdown should you complete your checks when on an approach at a civi airfield?

A

12 track nm, approx. the base leg

Q

How will you fly a non-precision approach (SRA, LOC/DME, VOR/DME) in the Texan to civilian airfields?

A

Use a Derived Decision Height/Altitude (+50ft to MDH/MDA)

Do not fly it in to the MAPt. Be actioning the MAP by the DDH in order not to go near MDH, it is still the hard deck.

Q

What admin should you do once at a landaway airfield?

A

Work out a timeline for prep, RTB brief, taxy and T/O.

Contact Sqn Ops with status and expected T/O time for RTB. If flying a LL route home ensure an up to date deconfliction check has been made on CADS.

Contact tower by phone to discuss how you plan to depart the airfield.

Fill out a Form 6840 to bill the RAF, leave the yellow copy with the handling agent and bring the white copy back to Sqn Ops.

Before walking for the a/c, phone the DP at Valley to get the latest ATIS and find out if there’s likely to be a change to the div or FOG.
