A

In 1951, Linda Brown took the Board of Education to court as he wanted his daughter to attend a whites only school. Brown lost the case but in May 1954, the Chief Judge declared every education board had to end segregation

What was the Montgomery Bus Boycott?

A

In 1955, Rosa Parks removed to move from whites section of a bus. African-Americans provided 75% of the bus company’s business and the African-American community supported each other with transport. A year later, the Supreme Court ruled segregated buses were illegal

MLK organised a non-violent protest in one of the most segregated cities in America in 1963. The police, under orders of Eugene ‘Bull’ Connor attacked the protesters. JFK sent in troops and ordered the council to end segregation

A

Before his assassination, Kennedy supported a new Civil Rights Act which gave African-Americans equality.
Johnson introduced another Act in 1964 that outlawed racial discrimination and segregation.
In 1965, the Voting Rights Act gave all Americans the right to vote
