Affirmative Action
Political organization founded by Huey Newton & Bobby Seale to challenge police brutality against the African American community.
Black Panthers
A protest where African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery, Alabama
Montgomery Bus Boycott
1896- Constitutionally enact and require persons of different races use “separate but equal” facilities
Plessy v. Ferguson
1950- Negro law school was unequal and inferior- Wanted admission into UT Law School and was admitted because of the Equal Protection Clause
Sweatt v. Painter
1857- African American was not a citizen since he was descendant of a slave
Dred Scott v. Sanford
1954- Racial groups had equal protection under 14th Amendment (granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the US)
Hernandez v. Texas
1954- segregation in public schools PROHIBITED by the US constitution
Brown v. Board of Education
1966- suspects must be informed of their rights prior to being interrogated by police (your Miranda rights)
