What was agreed on the act?
Ban discrimination in voter registration test. Ban discrimination in public spaces and businesses with branches. Ban job discrimination; Equal Opportunity commission set up.
Was the Civil rights act significant?
In theory yes. But it didn’t abolish discrimination.
What was the problem with the act in the south?
Problems of enforcing federal laws in Southern states remained.
What was the problem with the act in terms of voting?
Nothing to impose the fair voter registration.
What was the problem of the Equal Opportunities Commission?
Could only investigate complaints. Many Southern black people feared complaining.
Problems of act in deep south?
Businesses and schools still found ways around desegregation.
