Montgomery bus boycott
Beginning in 1955, the 13-month nonviolent protest by the black citizens of Montgomery to desegregate the city’s public bus system, Montgomery City Lines.
Southern Christian Leadership Conference
Founded in 1957 by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other prominent civil rights leaders, the SCLC played a crucial role in shaping the struggle for racial equality and justice.

Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee -
Founded in 1960, SNCC coordinated activities within the civil rights movement, representing 16 southern states and D.C.
Freedom Rides
During the spring of 1961, student activists from the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) launched the Freedom Rides to challenge segregation on interstate buses and bus terminals. From Washington, D.C., to Jackson, Mississippi, the riders met violent opposition in the Deep South.
March on Washington
On August 28, 1963, more than 250,000 people gathered in the nation’s capital for the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
Civil Rights Act of 1964

Voting Rights Act of 1965

Black Power
Began as a revolutionary movement in the 1960s and 1970s. It emphasized racial pride, economic empowerment, and the creation of political and cultural institutions.
