Tort Law
Injuries done by one person to another person’s body, property, or reputation and claims arising from serious accidents
Contract Law
Failure to pay for work done, something bought but not yet delivered, and non-payment of rent

Wrongful dismissal from work, unpaid overtime
Property Law
Disputes about ownership of property
Plaintiff
The person who is accusing a company/person
Defendant
The person who is defending themselves in a court of law
Who must prove the case? (Defendant or Plaintiff)

Usually 2-5 years
How fast must a claim be served after the incident?
Within 6 months
Pecuniary Damages
Compensation where money is involved
Non-Pecuniary Damages
Compensation where money is not involved
Special Damages
Out-of-pocket expenses such as drugs, therapy, and other medical services
Punitive Damages
Damages meant to punish the defendant (e.g. jail time)
Nominal Damages
Damages that are small as to not impact the defendant too much but are meant to prove a point
Injunction
A court order meant to make a person do or not do something
