Name the three tracks within the county court
Small, fast and multi claims tracks
What does the small track deal with
Claims under £10,000
What does the fast track deal with
Claims between £10,000 and £25,000
What does the multi track deal with
Claims over £25,000
List the divisions in the high court
Chancery, Family and the Kings bench
What does the chancery deal with
Cases involving property, or business disputes
What does the family division deal with
Adoption, property and divorce - e.g family matters
What does the Kings bench deal with
Any contract or negligence cases.
What cases do the Court of Appeal hear
Appealed cases from lower courts and tribunals
What are tribunals
- More informal courts of law than a traditional court
- less strict rules of evidence
- similar procedures to that of a court.
List 2 advantages of civil courts and ADR
- Alternate methods such as mediation tend to be cheaper, as there is no court fee
- Parties are less likely to appeal if they reach an agreement
List 2 Disadvantages of civil courts and ADR
- No system of president so often inconsistency’s
- Courts have an appeal structure
What does ADR stand for
Alternate dispute resolutions
