What is a secular nation?
A nation that does not have a specific religion.
Why is secular nation important?
It provides equality between people’s religion and gives them a right to choose.

What is ‘fair go’?
Fair go is a belief that everyone should be treated equally with fairness.
Section 116 of the Australian Constitution meaning
Everyone is free to believe and practice any religion they want, or not follow any at all.
What is xenophobia?
The fear or dislike of anything that is perceived as foreign or strange.
How does ‘fair go’ relate to the Australian culture?
Australians believe that Fair Go is the true expression of the treatment we expect from one another. All people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.
What is a representative democracy?
People vote for an elected representatives to create laws and policies on people’s behalf.
What caused the national apology?
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were forced to be removed from their families, causing pain and trauma on the Stolen Generations.
Ways to be an ‘active citizen’.
Participate in democracy by voting for the people that will best represent our opinions and beliefs
