What is the role of the parliament
The parliament votes for new laws. The parliament are politicians.
What is the role of the executive
The executive are people like the prime minister and the cabinet. The executive come up with ideas for most of the new laws and implement them if they pass.
What is the role of the judiciary
The judiciary are judges. The judiciary decide if laws have been broken or if they are unconstitutional using the constitution.
What are the 4 main roles of the Australian parliament

- Representing the people of Australia
- Providing a place where government is formed
- Keeping a check on the work of the government

When federal and state laws are inconsistent, the federal law prevails (wins) and the state law is invalid.
