what does the first amendment do?
guarantees freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press and petition
what does the second amendment do?
protects the right to keep and bear arms
what does the third amendment do?
protection from quartering of soldiers during times of peace
what does the fourth amendment do?
protection from illegal search and seizure, requires probably cause and search warrant
what does the fifth amendment do?
protects rights of accused-preventable double jeopardy, self-incrimination, grants due process, grand jury, sets rules for eminent domain (led to miranda rights)
what is the 6th amendment?
guarantees a fair and speedy jury trail and the right to know the accusation, accuser, and to have counsel and witnesses.
what is the 7th amendment?
grants the right to a jury trial in civil cases
what is the 8th amendment?
protects against cruel and unusual punishment and excessive bail
what is the 9th amendment?
states that the rights in the constitution are not our only rights
what is the 10th amendment?
creates reserved powers for the states
what is the 11th amendment?
limits the jurisdiction of the federal courts
what is the 12th amendment?
allows for President and Vice President to be elected separately
what is the 13th amendment?
officially banned slavery in the U.S

grants citizens and equal protection for freed slaves, 2nd of the post civil war amendments, 2nd due process clause

allows citizens to vote regardless of race
what is the 16th amendment?
grants the federal government the right to tax income
what is the 17th amendment?
created direct election of senators
what is the 18th amendment?
banned the sale and consumption of alcohol (prohibitioN)
what is the 19th amendment?
granted women’s suffrage rights (allowed women to vote)

changed the President and congress term start from March to January. aka lame duck
what is the 21th amendment?
officially repealed the 18th amendment (alcohol legal)
what is the 22nd amendment?
limited the president to 2 terms cannot serve more than 10 years
what is the 23rd amendment?
grants electoral votes to citizens of Washington D.C
what is the 24th amendment?
officially banned poll taxes to deny people suffrage.
